Budapest Airport wins Route of the Week for Basel, Malmö, Milan and Rome connections with Wizz Air
Wizz Air services from Budapest to Basel, Malmö, Milan and Rome
This week, Budapest Airport reopened four other major routes with home-based carrier Wizz Air. Welcoming the return of connections to the cities of Basel, Malmö, Milan and Rome, the low-cost airline confirmed the initial reintroduction of 1,440 additional weekly seats in early June. Already expected to more than double by July, the carrier has confirmed an increase to 3,420 weekly seats to the last destinations returning to the airport network.
“Wizz Air has brought back ideal destinations for business and leisure travelers – Basel, the cultural capital of Switzerland; Malmö, the beautiful coastal city in southern Sweden; Milan, world capital of fashion and design; and Rome, the infamous historic city and capital of Italy. All beautiful metropolises that we are very happy to see return to our weekly program, ”says Balázs Bogáts, Head of Airline Development at Budapest Airport. “Continuing to experience new growth, Budapest is prioritizing the return of passenger traffic to safe and stable levels. With the help of our airline partners, we are able to carry out the redevelopment of the airport and welcome visitors again to allow Hungarian tourism to return.
While flights to Malmö will remain bi-weekly flights, by July Wizz Air’s frequency to Basel will become five times per week. By August, the airline’s operations to Milan Malpensa will be daily and Rome will gradually increase to five times a week.
“The vaccination rollout in Hungary is currently one of the best among EU countries, relative to population,” says Bogáts. “With more than half of the country having already been vaccinated, we are convinced that the road to recovery will continue and that our airport will again be a key contributor to the redevelopment of tourism in Hungary. “
