Tetris – 10 pro tips to dominate online | Zoom Fintech
With the Tetris effect of 2018, what is old becomes new again. Dazzling atmospheric visuals, an engaging soundtrack and unique game modes and concepts give the classic series a new twist and breathe new life into the experience.
Monstars and Resonair Studios have managed to take a classic, established formula and reinvigorate it, keeping the appealing puzzle mechanics and bringing it to eleven. Recently this exhilarating version of Tetris has been further enriched with new online options.
This renowned game for Xbox One, Series X / S and Windows, labeled “Tetris Effect Connected”, is more engaging and robust than ever. While online showdowns tend to be the main draw, they can also be some of the most intimidating fights in the game.
But don’t be afraid! This list will cover ten pro tips and tricks to help you perfect your Tetris Effect game and beat your opponents.
11 Using Tetromino sockets
Unlike the old Tetris classics, this game offers various options to exploit beyond speed and maneuverability, thanks to new features. A nifty tool at your disposal is the ability to quickly swap one part for another.
The tetromino in standby will be displayed at the top left of your screen. Just press the right or left bumper to swap the part. This basic movement can greatly change the outcome of a game, as an unsatisfactory piece can be replaced with a much better fitting piece.
You can even tinker with the “hold” setting in the play options to better suit your playing style. Here you will find the options to preemptively rotate and trigger a held tetromino before it even sinks. ‘displays on the screen.
ten Focus on combos in the classic score attack
Classic Score Attack drops all the bells and whistles of flashy modern fashions, reducing things to the iconic NES-style Tetris. As such, much of the strategy comes down to maneuverability and getting points fast.
There’s little hassle in stacking large stacks, as junk and game-changing items don’t exist in this mode.
Considering these features and the focus this mode places on high scores, it’s really best to focus on creating combos and notching multiple Tetris here. Of course, you usually have to strive to erase more rows at a time, but that’s particularly true in Classic Score Attack.
9 Switch between quick erasures and larger combos
Despite the classic scoring attack, it’s generally a good idea to oscillate between smaller, faster row erasures and larger combos. This lends itself to the frenetic, sporadic, and often unpredictable nature of the game. With things like garbage piles, flipping screens, and oversized tetrominoes, things can get quite hairy in the blink of an eye.
Thus, you should generally avoid obstructing your screen to extreme levels. Of course, this depends in part on your opponent’s performance and their the current situation is.
8 Increase the next queue
Of course, it’s a good idea to stay alert for your next incoming coin, which shows up at the top right of your screen.
But this can be further exploited by a simple adjustment in the game options screen. In the game options you can go to the “next queue” and dial the number of incoming tetrominoes displayed at a time up to to a maximum of 4.
7 Use hard drops often
Like many newer Tetris offerings, TEC lets you play a game faster with the convenient ‘hard drop’ option. Simply pressing the down arrow once a piece is lined up will cause it to fall quickly like a boulder. This should be used whenever possible in order to be one step ahead of an opponent.
It is true that rushing these too much many can create the potential for failed drops. Although the “ghost part display” in the game options helps ensure that the part is properly aligned. Make sure it is turned on.
6 Recall or eliminate visual and audio distractions
The gameplay and visual options will also allow you to mitigate the stimulation overload that Tetris Effect Connected can be.
The rather small viewing screen can be enlarged so you can better see the action on the screen. The somewhat jarring adjustable camera can be turned off, and the tetromino graphics can be given more classic color schemes to make them stand out a bit more.
In the visual options, things like clear line effects, area shine, and matrix visibility can be toned down to further mitigate distractions and highlight the action.
4 (Zone Mode) Effective Use of Zone Mode
One of the most notable inclusions of Tetris Effect is the ability to freeze gravity and initiate “Zone Mode”. This can be exploited to blind and defeat opponents in Zone Battle – if used wisely.
Once your zone meter is at least nearly full, fire it up and try to rack up as many row erasures as possible while this frozen state is thrown. Build stacks that leave two or three empty margin lines to be safely filled.
Since the action freezes, you won’t have to worry about filling up too much of the screen, so try notch at least ten lines are erased. Clearing enough lines will throw rows of hard-hitting garbage across the other player’s screen. Clearing all line meanwhile will send a huge Ten lines of garbage!
Just make sure you don’t expand the pieces too much so that they block incoming tetrominoes, as the stack doesn’t move until this ability ends.
3 (Connected Mode) Revives faster using this technique
Playing the unique cooperative version of Tetris can be fun and exciting, but also scary. This is especially the case if you happen to bite the dust and are forced to sit on the sidelines while your partners resurrect you. It’s like a puzzle version of Gears of War – and only slightly less aggravating.
Fortunately, you can help with a quick recovery, so you don’t have to completely rely on your teammates’ efficiency to slash Tetrises. When you are down, a ring of pulsation will be visible around your avatar, which you may notice oscillating at a rate.
When the ring shrinks to a small point, press one of the coin’s rotate buttons. Keep doing this and you will be revived much faster.
2 (Connected Mode) Be quick to fill places for other players when needed
It’s a good idea to use the unique combined conditions of Connected Mode. This can be done at intervals where the screens of all three players merge into one. Be on the lookout for spaces that suit your tetromino shape, and be ready to jump to fill the space when it’s your turn to move.
Of course, it depends on the situation, and it’s often good to fill out your own section while your teammates fill out theirs. Face off against your teammates and complete any area that will lead to the highest number of clearances.
1 (Connected mode) Battery on the tetrominos just before filling the connected meter
You may have noticed that some gamers frantically stack their own screens in connected mode. While this may seem like a self-sabotaging effort, it’s actually good for the team – provided it happens shortly before the screens merge. This is effective because all messy stacks will collapse and rearrange when merging.
If your screen is fairly blank, be sure to watch the counters surrounding player avatars. When they are almost full, start stacking as this will clear more lines faster which can be used against the boss. Just make sure there are a few gaps to fill.
