Zurich charity steps up support for global COVID-19 vaccination campaign
Z Zurich Foundation, a charity founded by Zurich Insurance, will provide an initial donation of CHF 1 million to support UNICEF’s campaign to deliver two billion doses of COVID-19 vaccines to the world by the end from 2021.
UNICEF’s immunization efforts aim to reach frontline social and health workers, as well as high-risk and vulnerable people around the world. The Z Zurich Foundation will support the global effort and work with local Zurich businesses around the world to make additional donations through various fundraising campaigns.
“Meeting one of the greatest needs related to the pandemic, namely equitable access to vaccines, is the right thing to do and is also at the heart of our ambition,” said Gregory Renand, director of the Z Zurich Foundation. . “As part of our collaboration with UNICEF to support the global deployment of COVID-19 vaccines, we aim to help make COVID-19 vaccines available to as many people, starting with those who are vulnerable and at risk. Now is the time to act and help save lives. “
UNICEF is working with the COVID-19 Global Vaccine Access Center (COVAX Facility) in collaboration with Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance, WHO and CEPI to leverage its experience as the largest purchaser of vaccines to the world by working with manufacturers and partners on the purchase and supply of COVID-19 vaccine doses.
“To fight the global COVID-19 pandemic, all sectors must join hands and we are therefore pleased to welcome the contribution of the Z Zurich Foundation to support equitable access to COVID-19 vaccines,” said Charlotte Petri Gornitzka, UNICEF Deputy Executive Director for Partnerships. “Ending the pandemic is everyone’s business because no one is safe until everyone is safe.”
